Abstract:
In Sri Lanka's IT sector, this study investigates how strategic communication management
might be affected to maximize the success of projects in remote working environments. It
focuses on critical areas of knowledge, determines problems with virtual communication, and
suggests solutions. Intending to provide valuable suggestions for improved project success, the
study addresses the fundamental issue of how strategic communication affects the results of
project success. With the rise of remote work due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this study focuses
on information clarity, accuracy, and timeliness as critical factors in achieving project success.
However, during this shift, research on the specific difficulties of communication in Sri Lanka's
remote workplaces, such as reduced information clarity and trustworthiness, delays in message
delivery, and limited accessibility, remains remarkably lacking. This study examines how this
communication aspects influence project success and offers insights for improvement in
project success, emphasizing the unique challenges faced by the IT industry. A quantitative
research methodology was conducted using a cross-sectional survey approach. This
correlational study is undertaken with minimal researcher interference, using non-contrived
settings to reflect real-world remote work environments. According to this study, IT
professionals who are adapted to virtual settings in Sri Lanka have been identified as the target
population. Out of this whole population, the sample selected using the purposive sampling
technique consisted of 116 participants, including project managers, quality assurance
engineers, business analysts, and software engineers selected from the Colombo District, Sri
Lanka. Also, the study aims to collect data using a structured questionnaire to measure the
impact on project success. The main findings from data analysis were conducted using SPSS
software. The study used correlation and regression analysis to confirm that clear and accurate
communication strategies are critical to achieving successful project outcomes, helping to align
project goals with stakeholder expectations. The reliability of variables was validated by
internal consistency analysis, with Cronbach’s alpha values exceeding 0.70 in research
findings, including pilot test results. The study tested hypotheses linking strategic
communication (clarity, accuracy, timeliness) to project success. The results indicate that
accuracy and clarity play a critical role in enhancing project success, while timeliness does not
have a statistically significant effect. Timeliness, although essential, compared to accuracy and
clarity, has less influence on project success. It recommends that project managers should
prioritize clear and accurate communication to reduce the challenges associated with remote
work. These insights provide practical guidance for enhancing communication in Sri Lanka’s
IT industry.
